Fusion is the first serial produced surfski that is designed and manufactured in Sweden! Developed during 15 month specific for Nordic oceans to get as close to perfection as possible. We have created a very safe ocean craft for high speed over long distance in rough water. The hydrodynamic hull is made with a lower rocker and much volume in the ends to glide smooth thru smaller waves and lift in bigger. This also gives superior tracking when traversing in downwind. The hull shape is flat to achieve high primary stability and to easily catch and ride waves, something that is really notable already in small short waves. All this together gives a less nervous ski where you can feel relaxed when conditions are rough and stay focused on hammering forward. The cockpit has been tested a lot to give an ergonomic seating and a feeling of aggressive forward paddling position. The gunwales are low so it is very easy to climb back from the water, even in waves. The foot brace has been a critical component in our development. We have now found an innovated idea that is made to enable a good leg drive without any unnecessary steering. By making the foot brace in one piece pre preged carbon the "pedals" can be set straight up so when you are pushing hard with the heels the kayak is tracking straight forward. The lower section is also made curved, after a foot, for maximal support and comfort. The draining system is a dinghy self bailer that is easy to reach and maneuver from closed to fully open. When open maximal and the cockpit is full of water it takes about 30 strokes to get a completely dry cockpit. When you are in calmer water and the bailer is closed it reduces the drag by up to 3%. To give the user as many options as possible there are prepared areas for smaller hatches in cockpit, front- and back deck for light packing and fast touring. There are also an opportunity to have both ocean rudder and a Smart track kick up rudder, which can easily been switch between.

The new footbrace
One-piece prepreg epoxy/carbon footbrace-pedal system for superior comfort and efficiency with minimum weight and complexity, and a low adjustable strap for stability and powerful paddling. High friction peelply surface for a secure grip, regardless of footwear.

Layup options for Fusion

Depending on how you going to use your ski, you can chose between three layups. Note: all options are in 100% prepreg carbon, the layups give you variations in sensibility, stiffness, durability and weight.

Elite

Unidirected prepreg carbon layers in right directions to achieve stiffness at the right places with minimal weight. Core material of divinycell makes it possible to use less carbon and still get an extremely stiff hull that does not flex a millimeter. This is a solid and strong construction made for punching trough big waves but should be handled with care and not hit hard sharp objects. Weight 9 kg or less.

Price: 39.500 SEK standard setup (aprox. 3950 Euro)

Performance

Prepreg carbon layers with the right mix of twill weave and unidirected fibers to achieve great overall stiffness but also point flexibility with minimal carbon without any core material. This layup is extremely strong and is the perfect choice if you handle your kayak a little bit rougher and want to have the possibility to land rocky beaches. Weight 13 kg.

Price: 34.850 SEK standard setup (aprox. 3500 Euro)

Mix

Mixed layup of Elite at the deck and Performance at the hull to save some weight but still have a super strong hull. Weight 12kg.

Price: 37.500 SEK standard setup (aprox. 3750 Euro)

NOTE: all weight figures includes standard components

Standard components:

  • Adjustable one piece foot pedal plate with foot straps
  • Ocean rudder medium
  • Self bailer that could be closed and opened
  • Pack cord behind cockpit

  • Soft top short, over the feet’s, mounted with Velcro tape, price 750 SEK

Marström Building methods

Marström Composite in Västervik Sweden, the builder of our Fusion ski, is the world leader in developing prepreg carbon hulls, masts and spare parts to the sailing and flight industry using autoclave technique. An autoclave is a pressure vessel that heats up to an optimal temprature, in this case around 125 degrees centigrade and puts high pressure on the material. This is making the prepreged carbon harder and stronger than all other procedures.

Prepreg carbon means that the carbon fiber is pre filled with epoxy to ensure an optimal blend of epoxy and carbon fiber- about 30 % epoxy and 70 % fibers. These is what makes the different with for example hand layed up or vacuum infused carbon which are the most common methods for laminating kayaks. The ratio epoxy/fibers never gets better than 60/40. It is comparable with building a house ground with less reinforcement and more concrete- you don’t get the full potential of the material (carbon).
